Fight The Winter Blues With The Latest Issue of Calliope

Staff reports

Romance is in the air thanks to the winter Calliope!

Valentine’s Day is upon us and winter drags on … get yourself a snootful of romance and icy weather with the winter/Valentine’s Day issue of Calliope, Branford High’s magazine of student writing and artwork. Copies are available for just $1 from Mr. Matthiessen in room F14.

The magazine received dozens of contributions this time, so the editors could not fit everything in.

“There is so much talent at BHS, and we get so many great submissions which makes it difficult to make choices about what goes in,” said senior editor-in-chief Holly Fischer. “We have one more issue coming out at the end of the school year, and hoping to have a great finish! I hope lots of students will contribute their writing and artwork!”

Although this is the winter/Valentine’s Day issue, much of the content relates to other topics. For example, the front cover features a still life painting by senior Mason Porras, and a radically different still life appears inside in a painting by senior Michelle Lin. Sophomore Madison Patton has two poems and two photographs in the magazine, and sophomore Noah Fischer has two pieces of artwork, one a monochromatic drawing and the other a painting on the back cover that hints at the coming spring. Other contributors to this issue include Karma Do, Gabby Silva, Lily Geddes, Lucy Peterson, Bennett Amaral, Camille Dalton, Matthew Santone, Jack Walsh, Destiny Alvelo, Aurora Lyon, Mak Yankee, Kendall Leonard, and several anonymous contributors.
