Album of the Week: Chunk of Change

Editor's note: The following is part of a regular feature in The Buzz spotlighting a new or interesting album.
Group: Passion Pit Album: Chunk of Change Genre: indie pop/synthpop Similar Groups: MGMT, Matt and Kim Bio: Passion Pit is a group formed by Michael Angelakos, Ian Hultquist, Xander Singh, Jeff Apruzzese, and Chris Hartz.  All of the members except for Michael Angelakos attended Berklee College of Music.  Angelakos actually went to Emerson College which is where he initially wrote the first four songs on Chunk of Change as a gift to his girlfriend.  Once the band formed and the other songs were added, Chunk of Change was released in 2008.  In 2009, Passion Pit put out their first studio album Manners which was followed up by Gossamer in 2012. Luke’s Opinion: Chunk of Change is an overall great album to put on if you are looking for feel good music.  The combination of quick tempo percussion and the high piercing synthesizers make for an interesting sound for either focused listening or background music.  Being a short EP at just under half an hour, I recommend listening to the entire album straight through. Best Tracks: “I’ve Got Your Number” and “Living to Tell the Tale” What do you think? Let us know in the comments or via Twitter @BranfordBuzz
