It’s that time of year again – BHS is hosting the annual Homecoming dance and Powderpuff game.
Homecoming Dance
This year’s Homecoming dance theme is Y2K, meaning all things fashion from the year 2000, a theme selected after a vote of the student body. It’s $10 per ticket for a night of dancing, food, music, and photos on Friday, Nov 21.
The commons will be the floor of the night, with a DJ playing your favorite songs. There will also be a photo booth set up so you can take the night’s memories with you.
“There is going to be lots of dancing, and lots of photos so dress nice,” said Sal Zarra, advisor to the BHS Student Government, in an interview. “We are going to have a DJ set up in the commons, and you can request songs you want to hear.”
Plenty of food is going to be available at the dance as well, Zarra said.
“We are gonna have fresh pizzas from Big-Y brought in every half hour for the kids,” he added. “There will be a good amount of drinks to have, too, like iced tea, lemonade, and water of course.”
Planning on going? Here’s some things to know:
– You must attend at least three periods of class the day of in order to be let in via school policy
– There will be a random breathalyzer test happening
– Once you leave, you’re out: administration will not let you back in if you leave the venue
– A school ID as well as a valid ticket will need to be provided upon entry
Tickets are currently being sold in the cafeteria during lunch waves with the last day to purchase tickets being Wednesday Nov 19. Doors open at 7 and the dance ends at 10 p.m.
The annual Homecoming Dance has been part of a longstanding tradition at BHS and even survived the COVID pandemic, when the dance was held outside under a tent. In some years it was billed as a Sadie Hawkins-type dance, with girls asking boys to go.
Powderpuff Game
This year’s Girls Flag Football game, better known as Powderpuff, will be on Tuesday, Nov 25 at 6 p.m. on the turf. This year’s game will be played under the lights for the first time ever.
The annual game pits the juniors and seniors against each other in a flag football game. This year’s seniors (Class of ’26) will be defending their title as they won last year against the then seniors (Class of ’25) 14 to 7.
The senior captains for the Class of ’26 include Ava Gamberdella, and Aliza Giordano. The junior captains for the Class of ’27 include Caitlin Reilley, Leila Verzella, and Jess Radziunas.
All students are invited to the showdown under the lights at no cost.
