Just three months after the loss of 2014 graduate Tally Sepot, the Branford community has yet again suffered a loss. Shane Patrick Murphy, 19, passed away on December 23rd, 2015 at his home in Stony Creek. Remembered as a kind, generous, and adventurous person, Shane was a member of the National Honor Society and played varsity hockey during his time at BHS. He loved working at Dockside Restaurant, enjoying the outdoors (especially waterskiing) in New Hampshire and Vermont, and driving his truck. According to friends and classmates, Shane was smart and kind and loved life fully. Friend and fellow ’14 graduate Max Fillion wrote, “I challenge you to look back at Shane Murphy’s life and remember his greatest attribute, the thing that drew everyone to him: his love.” To help the Murphy family handle the cost of the funeral, friends of Shane’s have set up a GoFundMe account. Donations will also go toward setting up a hockey scholarship in Shane’s name. In three days, donors have raised $16,000, far surpassing the goal of $2,500, which serves to demonstrate how dearly Shane was and is still loved. To lose two classmates within months of each other is devastating; it is a testament to the strength of the Branford community that we are coming together in these hard times and spreading sunshine and love the way Tally and Shane would want us to. Shane is survived by his parents Phyllis and Mike and his twin sister Cassidy, a fellow member of the Class of 2014. Friends are welcome to a wake today (Monday December 28th) from 4 – 8 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford and are invited to Tabor Lutheran Church in Branford, tomorrow morning at 11:00 for a funeral service.
