By: Ryan Connell  The Branford High school Girls Volleyball team has been stellar so far this year. They have a record of 11-5 heading into the last part of the regular season. They have already clinched a share of the Oronoque division title and look for bigger and better things in the postseason. They have been one of the hottest teams in the SCC winning 8 out of their last 10 games. The team is lead by Captains Anna Atkinson, Lauren Kuhn and Hannah Zampano.  According to Atkinson, “Coming into the season I felt really good about our team and what we had. I knew we had some returning set talent and I was very excited for the season.” The Hornets have played good games this year; even if they lose, they have given a great effort. They have had victories over Foran, East Haven twice, Career twice, Sacred Heart Academy, Guilford, North Haven, and Wilbur Cross. Their only losses have been to Shelton, Amity twice, Guilford, and Cheshire. The hornets are ranked 5th in the SCC heading into this week as they look to finish the season inside the top 5 of the Conference. Atkinson said she is proud of the team’s performance so far this year. “We have definitely been working hard and it’s starting to pay off,” she said. “I’m so proud of my team and I love them all.” The volleyball team has put in its hard work and now they have to go out and play the best they can. The volleyball team put on a “pink” game on Tuesday October 15th. They raised money for breast cancer awareness and for breast cancer research. They are a finding a great way to give back to the community.  They won three sets to one over Sacred Heart Academy. The hornets also won on Wednesday against Wilbur Cross three sets to none. They advance to 11-5 on the year as the regular season wraps up. The girls are back in action this Friday night home against North Haven at 6:00 p.m. They will also be playing on Wednesday October 23rd against Shelton at 6:00 p.m. This is their senior day and final home game. Be sure to come out and support the girls’ volleyball team!
